"It is a grey afternoon in Prague. The winter is blowing in and I know only a few words in Czech. My friends are passionate about the writing of Terry Pratchett about which I know very little, apart from his reputation for fabulous imagination. I have been invited to view the dramatization of Mort by Tousen Sokol. Whatever would it be like? Could I stand to watch such a performance in English, let alone in Czech, and by an amateur company!
How could Pratchett's work be adapted to theatrical performance anyway? Well, all these questions have been answered for me by the inspired acting and the simple, but brilliantly effective staging that Tousen achieved. The language barrier soon dropped away as Death, his assistant and the other characters took shape. Perhaps I would have understood more if the script had been in English, but the resonance and phonetic poetry of Czech seemed entirely appropriate as a vehicle for Pratchett's work. Thank you to the Tousen Company for a superb experience."
